Thanks to the Administration and Counseling Department here at DePaolo Middle School, we now have the opportunity to bring a three-part lesson of the newest town-wide initiative into your child’s classroom.
S.T.E.P.S., which stands for Southington’s Town-wide Effort to Promote Success, is an asset building program that helps encourage positive behaviors in our youth. The more assets young people have, the more likely they’ll help others, exhibit leadership, succeed in school, value diversity, as well as avoid risky behaviors.
Attached to this letter are the 40 different developmental assets your child will be learning about. The 40 assets come from the Search Institute, which is the attitudes and behavioral model S.T.E.P.S. is following.
Your child has been instructed to share the S.T.E.P.S. initiative with you, their parent or guardian, to try and implement these assets into your lives over the next few months. With your help and with the help of all members of the community, we can create and build a new foundation for the future of Southington
If you have any questions or would like more information on the S.T.E.P.S. initiative, please contact me anytime at Southington Youth Services 860-276-6281. More information is also available on the Search Institute’s website www.search-institute.org.
