Alta Family Trout Farm
TROUT IN THE CLASSROOM
Through the efforts of Mr. John Duffy, Southington Public Schools Science Curriculum Coordinator, Trout in the Classroom was implemented to incorporate more environmental education into the curriculum. It is a program whereby an aquarium is set up under the guidance of Ed Albrecht, a member of Trout Unlimited and also the local Trout in the Classroom coordinator. In addition to learning about water quality and aquatic life, science students at ALTA will be responsible for maintenance, observation and incubation of the eggs. The goal is an aquarium full of trout fry that mature into fingerlings only to be released in the springtime into a local river during a class field trip!
