Summer School Program and Courses

Grades 6-8

 

 

Dear Parent/Guardian and Student:

Summer school remedial language arts, math, science and social studies courses will be offered in person to students in grades 6-8. Students in these grades who have not met sufficient success in these areas can register to review the curriculum content needed to enter the next grade.

2021 Dates:

July 6 - 9th
July 12 - 15th
July 19 - 22nd
July 26 - 29th

*First class date is Tuesday, July 6th.

Prior to the start of the program, each student will receive further information regarding start times, room number, and transportation options.

Tuition: No cost this summer

Courses and Sessions:

Session A: 9:00 - 10:25 am

2021 Enrichment Courses

  • Baking from Scratch: Cookies and Cakes

    This exciting food course is intended for students entering grades 6-10.  Students will learn how to make homemade baked goods including muffins, cookies, cupcakes, whoopie pies and more. There will be a friendly “Baking Challenge” at the culmination of the module. 

    Module 1: July 6th - 15th (8 days); Session A.  -OR-
    Module 2: July 19th - 29th (8 days); Session B
    Course Fee: $100

  • Baking from Scratch: The Art of Bread Making

    This exciting food course is intended for students entering grades 6-10. Students will learn how to make homemade breads. We will be working with yeast and make homemade pizza, stuffed breads, cinnamon rolls and more! There will be a friendly “Pizza Challenge” at the culmination of the module.

    Module 1: July 6th - 15th (8 days); Session B.  -OR-
    Module 2: July 19th - 29th (8 days); Session A
    Course Fee: $100

  • Introduction to Coding

    This course is intended for students entering grades 7-9 and are interested in gaining basic skills in computer programming. Students will learn how to design, code, and run simple programs using Scratch. Each day, students will explore new concepts as they design animated movie scenes, playable video games, and more.

    July 6th - 29th (16 days); Session A or B
    Course Fee: $125

Enrichment Registration Form 

NOTES:

Transportation will be offered with centralized pick-up locations (more information coming soon)

Enrichment courses will be offered to complement Remediation and Recovery courses taken.

*Students must be eligible and be a student currently enrolled in a Southington public school.
