What do I do if I am unable to connect to the PowerSchool Parent Portal?
There are a few reasons you may not be connecting:
- Is your internet service is working properly?
- Are you using the correct username and password?
- Are you accessing the correct website URL? (ps.southingtonschools.org) Make sure you see Southington Public Schools at the top of the page.
If you are still unable to connect, contact your child's school office during school hours for additional help.
I am getting an error "login has expired" or "cannot access site". What is wrong?
When logging in the password is filling with dots all the way across. Why?
Most likely you have clicked YES at one point to save your password in the browser for that computer. The computer is showing you that the password was saved by filling that space. You will need to clear the password from your browser or type over the dots with your known password. Your browser may ask if you want to replace the previous password with the new password.

Why does it take a long time for PowerSchool to load in my web browser?
I am not getting emails from PowerSchool. Why?
There could be multiple reasons for this:
- Did you sign-up for Email Notifications in your Parent Portal account? Please double check the email address you entered to be sure all information is accurately input.
- Does your email program have a spam blocker that could be blocking the messages? If so, you will want to add the email address powerschool@southingtonschools.org to the list of “allowed” email addresses, to allow PowerSchool emails to get through.
- Did you check your email's BULK , JUNK or SPAM folder? Check to see if the messages are going there and choose to mark them as NOT SPAM. You will have to consult your email's help menu or manual to learn how to do this as it is different for every email provider.
I replied to the PowerSchool auto-email with a question, but have not received a response. Why?
When I click on the teacher’s name to email the teacher, my email program doesn’t work correctly or does not open.
Settings in you email program or browser may be preventing this. The problem is usually due to a setting on your browser, directing it to the correct email program. Since everyone’s browsers and email programs are different, your specific browser needs to be setup correctly on your computer. You may want to view the HELP area or menu for your browser, email program or contact your Internet Service Provider for further assistance.
I can't login to the parent or student portal. I put in my username and password and click submit. After clicking submit, the page reloads to a blank username and password line and does not login. Help?
PowerSchool uses "cookies" and this means your internet security is set too high, probably to the highest level of security, which blocks cookies. Depending on your browser, you will need to find the Internet Security area and turn it down a level or two so cookies are accepted. You can find out more information about this by going to your web browser's help menu and doing a search on "cookies" or "internet security."
