School Nursing Supervisor

Welcome to the Health Office

"Healthy children are successful learners. The school nurse has a multi-faceted role within the school setting, one that supports the physical, mental, emotional, and social health of students and their success in the learning process. It is the breadth of nursing activities contained within the role of the school nurse and the unique non-medical setting that differentiates school nursing from other nursing specialties." NASN - National Association of School Nurses, Inc.

School nursing interventions improve student health to impact achievement and success. School nurses collaborate with administrators to promote a healthy, safe, and nurturing environment. Parent communication with the nurse is vital to the health and safety of the student.Today, the diverse role of the School Nurse includes:

Emergency Contacts

It is essential to quickly locate parents/guardians when students are ill, injured, or an emergency arises. Parents and guardians must update information in PowerSchool Registration at the beginning of the school year and include cell phone numbers if available.

Call your school to update any address or phone numbers as they change during the school year. Remember to update any changes for your emergency names and telephone numbers as well.

PLEASE NOTE:

* Notify the school if your child will be absent and indicate the reason for absence.

* All medications must have authorization forms completed by a authorized prescriber and parent in order to be administered in school. The forms are located in the school health office or physician's office and must be renewed annually or when any medication changes occur.

* The State of Connecticut HUSKY Health offers no cost/low cost health insurance coverage to eligible children, parents, relative caregivers, elders, individuals with disabilities, adults without minor children, and pregnant women. Call 1-800-CT-HUSKY for information and to apply.
