Welcome to the Southington Public Schools website. This website has been designed to provide easy access to information about our school system.  Each "button" on the top of this page will offer you a closer look at the tradition of innovation and excellence of The Southington Public Schools.  Southington, located in the geographic center of Connecticut, has a population of over 40,000 people. It has shopping centers, industrial parks, and a well developed downtown. Yet, it retains a rural character of farms, orchards and woodlands. We are approximately 20 minutes from Hartford, 30 minutes from New Haven with easy access to all major highways.

Southington has one of Connecticut’s largest public school systems servicing close to 7,000 students. We have 30 certified administrators and 600 teachers. Southington Public Schools consists of eight neighborhood elementary schools which serve students in grades K-5, two middle schools each serving over 800 students and Southington High School, a Blue Ribbon High School with 2,200 students in grades 9-12. We also have an alternative education program, Alta at North Center.  A facilities master plan has been developed to meet the expanding enrollment and program needs of the district.

Student learning and achievement are our primary mission.  Southington employs a five-year cycle for curriculum review. Our in-service program is state of the art focusing on differentiated instruction and meeting the instructional needs of every student. This provides for systematic planning and evaluation of all course offerings. Southington’s schools are truly a community enterprise with numerous business-school partnerships, active parent/teacher organizations, and strong volunteer programs. Southington students consistently score well above national and state averages on standardized tests including the Connecticut Mastery Test, the Connecticut Academic Proficiency Test and the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Students at all levels participate in a variety of statewide, regional and national academic competitions.

Our athletic program has a national reputation for excellence and there are a variety of interscholastic athletic opportunities for students.  Our music and marching band program has also distinguished itself, earning many national honors.  We pride ourselves on offering comprehensive programs to students requiring special needs and we have a strong belief that children come first. Please browse our website and learn about the wonderful and exciting opportunities in the Southington Public School System.
